The concept of Balmoral Equestrian Centre was first raised in 1989 when the Dutch Warmblood stallion Figaro was imported to Australia by Julia Battams with the aim of improving the breeding of sport-specific performance horses in Australia.

The physical construction of Balmoral Equestrian Centre as the home base for this idea began in November of 1990 and it was first registered as a business in 1991. The original buildings comprised an outdoor riding arena and a block of six timber stables, and the main business involved riding tuition and the stallion Figaro at stud

By 1994 , it was obvious that Balmoral was destined to expand beyond the capacity of the existing facilities and planning of the current buildings began. The business has now expanded such that the original 20 acre block of land is now supplemented by the leasing of adjoining properties.

The 72 x 30 metre indoor riding school and eighteen horse stable block opened in October 1995, and the upstairs club room and bar facilities opened in December 1998.
Balmoral now boasts one of the most unique and comfortable equestrian facilities in Victoria.

The business itself is still mainly riding tuition, but has developed various branches including the running of the Horse Studies Certificate II VET in schools programme, EFA NCAS Coaching training.

Balmoral has a group of horse and riders ( including staff, agistees and students ) competing at all levels of Dressage from adult Riding Club to FEI ( Federation Equestrian Internationale ) and the original dream of presenting a selection of purpose bred, competitive performance horses onto the competitive field is coming to fruition..
